Rapist Jailed After Victim Calls 999 During Attack

A rapist has been jailed after his victim courageously called 999 using his mobile phone while he was attacking her.

Fernando Camutari, 41, lured a 21-year-old woman to his home in Sheffield after a night out in June 2019. During the assault, the victim managed to call emergency services and could be heard pleading for him to stop.

Police quickly responded and arrested Camutari as he attempted to leave the property with the victim. Despite repeatedly denying the allegations, forensic evidence, CCTV footage and the recorded 999 call helped secure his conviction.

Following a trial at Sheffield Crown Court, Camutari was found guilty of rape and two counts of sexual assault. He was sentenced to six years and nine months in prison.

Detectives praised the victim's bravery and determination, describing her actions on the night of the attack as instrumental in bringing her attacker to justice.
