Summary

Jacob Agnew, 30, of Hull, was sentenced to five and a half years in prison at Hull Crown Court for offences involving seven girls aged between 14 and 17. The court heard that Agnew, a former youth worker, committed these offences between 2012 and 2022.

Agnew was found guilty of four counts of sexual activity with a child, one count of sexual assault, and one count of causing a child to engage in sexual activity following a 13-day trial. At a previous hearing in March, he pleaded guilty to four additional counts of sexual activity with a child and one count of fraud. The fraud charge related to Agnew providing a falsified reference for himself while applying for a role at a secondary school after his suspension from youth work.

Judge Mark Bury noted that the defendant abused his position of trust and had a sexual interest in younger females. In addition to his custodial sentence, Agnew is prohibited from contacting individuals under 18 and must comply with sex offender registration requirements.
