Trevor New-Watts
PublishedSummary
Trevor New-Watts, 57, of Norwich, was sentenced to 19 years imprisonment at Norwich Crown Court for child sexual offences committed between August 2021 and December 2022. Following a trial, he was found guilty of two counts of rape of a child, four counts of sexual assault of a child, and two counts of causing a child under 13 to engage in sexual activity.
Judge Mark Dennis described the offending as "wicked" during the sentencing hearing. In addition to the custodial term, the court imposed an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order, an indefinite restraining order regarding the victim, and a requirement to remain on the Sex Offenders' Register for life.
The investigation by Norfolk Police commenced in December 2022 after the victim disclosed the abuse to a relative. Evidence recovered during the investigation included mobile phone data showing that New-Watts had researched the duration for which DNA evidence remains present on the body.
