Mohamed Mohamoud
PublishedSummary
Mohamed Mohamoud, aged 22, was found guilty at Winchester Crown Court of preparation of terrorist acts, contrary to section 5 of the Terrorism Act 2006. Investigations by Counter Terrorism Policing South East revealed that Mohamoud travelled to Somalia in early 2025 with the intention of joining a proscribed Islamist terrorist group.
Digital forensic examination of his mobile phone, seized following his arrest on 20 January 2026, uncovered evidence of his activities. This included a Telegram thread where Mohamoud requested assistance to join the ‘Mujahedeen’ and expressed an ambition to become a ‘martyr’. Additionally, the device contained extremist propaganda featuring combat footage and executions. Following his return to the UK, further communications were recovered confirming his stated intention to commit himself to jihad. Mohamoud was subsequently charged on 26 January 2026 and convicted on 18 August 2026.
