Haneef Chowdhury
PublishedSummary
On 26 January 2022, Haneef Chowdhury and two accomplices gained entry to a flat in Birkenhead through the roof. During the robbery, the occupants were threatened with a knife at the woman's throat, while threats were made to cut the man's hand and injure their child. The perpetrators stole £6,000 and wedding jewellery before fleeing the scene; the other two suspects remain at large.
Prior to this incident, on 20 January 2022, Chowdhury had attempted to enter the same property by posing as a British Gas worker, but was turned away by the resident. Following the robbery, Chowdhury was identified and brought before Liverpool Crown Court. He pleaded guilty to the offence mid-trial. On 28 August 2026, Judge Charlotte Crangle sentenced him to 14 years in prison.
