Summary

Mohammed Khalil Nadir, 19, was found guilty following a trial at Leeds Crown Court of possessing articles for a terrorist purpose and disseminating terrorist publications. He was sentenced on 1 September 2026 to nine and a half years in prison, with an additional extended licence period of three years.

Investigations by Counter Terrorism Policing North East revealed that Nadir had researched the device used in the 2025 Heaton Park synagogue attack and subsequently ordered a similar vest, which he modified with fake wires and a trigger. He recorded and shared a video of himself triggering the device on Telegram. Upon his arrest in October 2025, police discovered the weighted vest, handwritten texts promoting martyrdom, and significant quantities of terrorist propaganda on his electronic devices.

In addition to the custodial sentence, the court imposed a Serious Crime Prevention Order for five years and a Terrorism Notification Order for 30 years.
