Jordan Burton
PublishedSummary
Jordan Burton, 34, of Achilles Street, Lewisham, was sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 10 years at the Old Bailey after being found guilty of murder. The conviction relates to an attack on Daniel Allright in September 2006, when the victim was 16 years old.
The court heard that Burton, along with a group of other youths, assaulted the victim in Friendly Gardens, Lewisham, using a piece of wood and a bicycle chain. The victim suffered a serious head injury during the attack and subsequently developed post-traumatic epilepsy. He suffered from thousands of seizures over the following years before passing away on March 26, 2022, following a fatal epileptic seizure.
During sentencing, Judge Anthony Leonard KC noted several aggravating features, including the use of a weapon and the involvement of group violence. While Burton had previously pleaded guilty to violent disorder and unlawful wounding in 2008 in relation to the initial assault, he denied the charge of murder during his trial, claiming he had been pressured into the earlier admissions. The court did not accept these claims, and he was convicted of murder.
