Summary

In December 2022, Kyran Smith, 29, committed a sexual assault against a woman at a hotel in Maidenhead. Smith, who had attended a party with the victim, used deception to obtain the victim's hotel room key from reception while she was asleep. The victim awoke to find Smith assaulting her in her bed; she subsequently ordered him to leave, after which he returned the key and retreated to his own room. The incident was reported to hotel staff the following morning.

Following a four-day trial at Reading Crown Court held in November, Smith was found guilty of trespass with intent to commit a relevant sexual offence and sexual assault. On 14 February 2026, he was sentenced to seven years and six months in prison.
